In Meditarivm - The Great Limbo [CD]

In Meditarivm is an Ukrainian apocalyptic ritual & dark ambient project organized in 2000 by Olegh Kolyada known by his projects First Human Ferro, Ostarbeiter and Oda Relicta. The albums like “Les Fleurs du Mal” and “Uterus” outlined the old school approach of the project clearly influenced by highlights of Morthound, Ildfrost, ConSono or Archon Satani. "The Great Limbo" is based on the re-engineered early works selectively crafted anew in summer 2009 at Olegh's Oda Relicta home studio. An elusory history of the project proceeds with a special Wrotycz Records release. The record, accompanied by a talented artwork of Kati Astraeir, comes as a limited to 500 copies 4-panel UV-varnished digipack with a poster.

The Great Limbo" is only the 10th release on Wrotycz Records. This Polish label however has already released noticeable albums from Sunset Wings, Coph Nia or yet the great Necrophorus. Hailing from the Ukraine we here get the debut album of In Meditarivm. Set up by Olegh Kolyada, this artist has been involved in other projects like First Human Ferro, Ostarbeiter and Oda Relicta. "The Great Limbo" is based on the re-engineered early works from this musician. He got back to albums like "Les Fleurs Du Mal" and "Uterus" revealing a dark and anguishing ambient sound. Most of the tracks are pretty short and that's sometimes a mistake. It creates the impression that the songs weren't achieved although it also sounds like a pure soundtrack production. I became totally convinced from the impact this music would have when being used as a soundtrack for a horror theme. The "Badlands Angelus" and "Iscarioth Cultus" both are remarkable tracks in the dark ambient mood. Another cut "Wings Clasped In Laps" brings another climax to the frightening and disturbing atmospheres created by In Meditarivm. Especially the echoing drones are appealing for visions of terror. "The Great Limbo" stands for a strong visual approach. The sonic layers lead the listener into an imaginary nihilistic world. You feel like you are totally isolated, being one of the last living souls on a desperate earth. I would have prefer to get more elaborated pieces leading to a real climax, but it's fair enough this way! (DP:6/7)DP.

Das ich seit Jahren ein Faible für Ambient-Industrial-Musik aus Osteuropa und insbesondere aus der ehemaligen Sowjetunion habe, dürfte ja inzwischen dem treuen BLACK-Leser nicht entgangen sein. IN MEDITARIVM ist dann so ein Fall, auf den ich ebenso wie LUNAR ABYSS oder REUTOFF durch die bekannte Drone-Single-Reihe aufmerksam geworden bin. IN MEDITARIVM gehört dem sogenannten Ukrainian Dark Syndicate an und hat bisher neben der bereits erwähnten 7“ nur CD-Rs in Eigenregie veröffentlicht, so das man vorliegende CD auf dem polnischen Wrotycz-Label als das erste richtige Album bezeichnen kann. Dieses deckt dann mit seinen 18 Tracks gleich einen Zeitraum von 1998 bis 2008 ab, der trotzdem in sich geschlossen und intensiv dunkel wirkt. Das Ganze offenbart auf mich eine ungemeine archaische Wucht und urige Authentizität, welche die meisten westlichen Dark Ambient-Projekte leider vermissen lassen und was irgendwie bezeichnend für die Mentalität des verschwundenen Ostblocks ist. Besonders die sakral-religiösen Untertöne der einzelnen Tracks nehmen mich gefangen und erinnern nicht von ungefähr an die längst vergangenen Anfangstage des schwedischen Cold Meat Industry-Labels. Auch öffnen sich hier vor meinem geistigen Auge keine Höllenschlünde ähnlich LUSTMORD, sondern gibt mehr einen Blick auf die vernarbte slawische Seele frei. Nebenbei haben die einzelnen Tracks fast schon Song-Charakter, da diese meist im 4 Minuten-Format gehalten sind und somit eine angenehme Ausnahme im Genre darstellen. Ich bin völlig begeistert von diesem Album, welches im ansprechenden Digipack + Mini-Poster daher kommt, auf 500 Stück limitiert und ein weiteres Juwel in der Veröffentlichungsreihe des immer wieder entdeckenswerten Wrotycz-Labels ist. Ganz großes Kino sage ich da oder nur „Geh und hör“… wenn das jetzt jemand zu deuten weiß?! (M.Fiebag)
